Broadcom Inc. - June 2026
“Broadcom added 64 bps, its 22.3% share price climb helped by the news OpenAI has selected the company to design its custom inference chip. Broadcom is the dominant designer of custom AI silicon: it has long co-designed Google's Tensor Processing Units, which power Gemini and some of Anthropic's inference capacity through Google Cloud. Few companies possess the engineering depth to develop bespoke accelerators at hyperscale. AI spending is shifting from training models to running them, where custom chips deliver materially better performance per watt and a lower cost per token than Nvidia's general- purpose GPUs. Under Hock Tan, one of the industry's ablest capital allocators, the company has assembled two further pillars that sit at the center of the AI build- out: • It dominates the Ethernet switching silicon that interconnects AI clusters — content that grows with cluster size, whether those clusters run on Nvidia GPUs or custom chips. • Through VMware, it supplies the virtualization layer enterprises need to run AI workloads alongside their legacy applications. We added to the position on the back of the OpenAI announcement, and as the stock consolidated off its highs.”
Broadcom Inc. - June 2026
“Portfolio Positioning We currently have about 9% of the portfolio in semiconductor-related stocks. We believe this gives us enough exposure to benefit from the wonderful growth that chip stocks enjoy without overly exposing the portfolio to a highly volatile sector currently trading at cyclical highs. During the quarter we initiated a meaningful position in Nvidia, after the company announced a 25-fold increase in its dividend, taking its yield from almost zero to 0.5%. We also increased our exposure to Taiwan Semiconductor, which, as the largest producer of computer chips in the world, should prosper regardless of whose chips are used for AI computing. We funded these purchases, in part, through pruning Broadcom and Texas Instruments, both of whose stocks soared during the quarter and were strong contributors.”

“Additionally, Apple signed a multi-year agreement with Broadcom spanning multiple product lines—encompassing not only conventional radio frequency components and next-generation wireless connectivity technologies, but also custom silicon across multiple generations of Apple products. As CEO Hock Tan has noted, custom silicon accelerators are on pace to match GPU units in volume by next year, and Broadcom, as the category leader, is well positioned to be the primary beneficiary of this transition. We maintain our conviction in Broadcom. The company is uniquely positioned to capture a dominant share of the custom silicon market and faces no credible terminal risk to its custom silicon franchise over the foreseeable future. We continue to hold the stock and believe Broadcom is on a path to becoming one of the largest technology companies in the world.”

“Broadcom Inc. is a global designer and supplier of semiconductor and infrastructure software solutions at the core of modern computing and networking. Through its acquisition of VMware, Broadcom also owns critical software layers used to virtualize and manage large-scale compute Baron Opportunity Strategy 5 June 30, 2026 FOR FINANCIAL PROFESSIONAL USE ONLY. NOT FOR USE WITH THE PUBLIC.ALL CAP environments. Shares contributed to performance during the quarter as the company’s key customer, Alphabet (Google), signaled higher and more durable capital expenditures over the coming years than previously anticipated. Broadcom’s multi- year agreement with Google, extending through 2031, validates its entrenched position within the Google silicon ecosystem and establishes it as a primary beneficiary of Google’s AI-related infrastructure spending. Beyond Google, several other customers showed incrementally positive signs in their custom silicon adoption journeys. Anthropic, following its recent commercial success, is planning for significantly larger compute requirements, which should translate into a growing custom silicon base over the next several years. OpenAI, working with Broadcom, taped out its first inference chip—codenamed Jalapeno—in a record nine months, and appears set to build 10 gigawatts of AI infrastructure using custom silicon this decade. Meta continues to hold a constructive view on AI investment and the associated infrastructure buildout. Additionally, Apple signed a multi-year agreement with Broadcom spanning multiple product lines— encompassing not only conventional radio frequency components and next-generation wireless connectivity technologies, but also custom silicon across multiple generations of Apple products. “Broadcom (+21%) will never triple in a quarter, and that is the point: from an 8.5% average weight, one of the Fund’s largest positions, it contributed +2.8 percentage points. “Despite the broad sell-off among large-cap growth stocks during the first quarter, three portfolio holdings demonstrated double-digit price appreciation – all within the semiconductor area. Consensus spend expectations for data center infrastructure continue to expand rapidly, particularly among the hyperscalers. During the first quarter of 2026, consensus estimates for 2026 and 2027 capital expenditures among Amazon (AMZN), Microsoft (MSFT), Meta (META), Alphabet (GOOGL) and Oracle(ORCL) cumulatively increased by 25% and 23% respectively, largely to support data center demand – inclusive of chips and related equipment. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSM), one of the world’s leading contract chip manufacturers and our largest active weight in the portfolio, saw both its 2026 and 2027 consensus EPS estimates climb by 15% during the first quarter driven by favorable management guidance and fundamental strength in its business. Marvell Technology (MRVL), which designs chips focused on data infrastructure including networking, data centers and custom silicon, also experienced meaningful positive revisions to 2026 and 2027 EPS consensus estimates on the back of management’s favorable outlook. In addition, at the end of the first quarter NVIDIA (NVDA) announced a $2 billion investment in the company, along with a strategic partnership focused on AI infrastructure, validating Marvell Technology’s role in next-gen AI data centers. Lastly, Monolithic Power Systems Inc (MPWR), which designs power management semiconductors that regulate and deliver electricity efficiently, experienced a roughly 5% increase in both 2026 and 2027 EPS consensus estimates during the first quarter, as a function of increasing visibility and backlog length. During the quarter, we took advantage of relative weakness in Broadcom Inc (AVGO) which we anticipate will be a major beneficiary of the anticipated data center infrastructure buildout over the coming years.”

“During the quarter, we initiated five new positions - Albemarle Corporation, Broadcom Inc., SLB Limited, TechnipFMC plc., and UCB S.A. We established a new position in ALB, a global leader in lithium with Tier 1, low-cost assets, in particular in the Chilean salar and Western Australia. We’ve known the company for some time and continue to believe that lithium remains one of the most structurally attractive commodities, given secular demand for battery technology. The Iran conflict will continue the secular theme of electrification and the diversification of energy sources away from Middle East oil. The beneficiaries include battery technology, both for EVs and utility-scale energy storage systems (ESS). Historically, supply has been slow to respond, and ongoing mining issues in China only add to supply constraints, reinforcing our expectation of a tighter market as demand increases. We initiated a position in Broadcom as one of the clearest beneficiaries of accelerating hyperscaler AI capex and custom compute deployment.”

One way to do this is by assessing the AI lifecycle: the first beneficiary in 2024 was GPU leader Nvidia; 2025 saw Broadcom take market share in custom silicon for AI applications; in 2026 leadership has shifted to AI infrastructure — the picks and shovels providers of memory and various needs for data centers.”
